Goals were scored frequently, Sept. 16, on the soccer field in Warhorse Stadium, where Owen hosted Mitchell in Western Highlands Conference match against Mitchell.
The Warhorses needed just over 52 minutes to win their second straight game, defeating the Mountaineers, 9-0.
Six Owen players scored goals in the contest, as junior Jonah Wilson drilled a goal from the center of the attack, early in the fifth minute of the play. Junior Keegan Barry rebounded a shot on goal on the right side, five minutes later, scoring his first of two goals in the first half. Senior Lyle Sulzman, junior Boone Ferguson and junior Aaron Bonilla each connected with the back of the net to give the Warhorses a 6-0 advantage heading into the break.
A penalty kick by junior Jasper Sterley in the 52nd minute of play extended the Owen lead, before Sulzman raced past a pair of defenders 24 seconds later to establish an 8-0 lead. Ferguson ended the contest just over a minute later with a breakaway goal, activating the mercy rule and clinching the victory for the Warhorses.
Owen improved to 3-4-2, overall, and 2-0-1 in the WHC with the win, which followed a 9-0 performance, Sept. 14, against Avery. The Warhorses will return home at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 21, when they host Hendersonville.
