Black Mountain specialty cut flower farm, Bloom WNC, will welcome award-winning songwriter and musician Anya Hinkle from 6 - 8 p.m., Friday, July 23. Hinkle will be joined by Billy Cardine on dobro and Mary Lucey on bass, vocals and banjo.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased on the Bloom WNC website.

The picturesque concert setting boasts an appropriate backdrop for Hinkle to celebrate the Organic Records release of her first solo album Eden and her Borderlands, which includes the single ‘Why Women Love Wine.”

“As an ethnobotanist by training, I'm especially excited to play at Bloom and weave in some of the botanical elements that some of my songs have,” Hinkle said. “A garden is obviously the perfect place to perform in support of my new record 'Eden And Her Borderlands' which releases July 16.”

With vivid storytelling, vibrant musicianship and arresting honesty, Hinkle explores the beauty of song craft through the lens of the Appalachian string band tradition. Originally from the mountains of Virginia, HInkle’s music is steeped in the tones of folk and bluegrass and seasoned by travels across the world.

A founding member of Asheville-based bands Dehlia Low (Rebel Records) and Tellico (Organic Records), Hinkle will release tracks from her first full-length album under her own name this summer on Organic Records.

Hinkle won the MerleFest Chris Austin Songwriting Competition in 2019 and was a finalist in the Hazel Dickens Song Contest for her song “Ballad of Zona Abston,” featured on Tellico’s 2018 release Woven Waters. The album, produced by Irish guitar legend John Doyle (Transatlantic Sessions, Joan Baez, Tim O’Brien), had a No. 1 single, No. 1 band and No. 2 album ranking on the Folk DJ charts in November of 2018. HInkle has toured all over the country and the world, particularly in Japan, but also in Europe and Canada, with international tours planned behind her upcoming release.

Joining Hinkle at this outdoor concert are Cardine and Lucey, founding members of The Biscuit Burners and currently performing with Lovers Leap. They tour the world performing, teaching, composing and producing music. Singer-songwriter Zach Briggs will open the show.

Guests should bring a chair and, if preferred, a picnic. Also available at the farm for this concert will be Ole’s Guacomole’s Taco Bar. The $15 cash-only taco bar will be first come, first served, prior to the concert. Please no dogs at the farm, which asks that concertgoers arrive no earlier than 5 p.m.

This is the fourth in a series of evening concerts on the farm featuring talented bluegrass musicians. More concerts are scheduled throughout the season. The next Bloom concert, scheduled for Friday, Aug. 20, will feature Cast Iron Bluegrass.
