Minutes from downtown Black Mountain, the unique setting of a specialty cut flower farm provides a picturesque venue for an evening of music, food and friendship.

When the Bloom WNC Outdoor Concert series continues, from 6-8 p.m., Friday, July 7, the Americana tunes of Asheville-based trio, the Scatterlings, will offer up a complementary soundtrack.

Tickets to the show are $20, and available at bloomwnc.com. Dinner will is available through the HomeSlice Mobile Pizza Oven, which will feature $5 (cash only) slices and beverages.

Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a chair and enjoy the acoustic music of the Scatterlings, which includes Elfy Kornfeld on lead vocals and baritone ukulele. Brad Pope accompanies wiith the guitar and mandolin, while the contributions of Kevin Gary include guitar, mandolin and harmony vocals.

Kornfeld has been at the heart of the Scatterlings since 2015, while regular Bloom Concert attendees will recognize Brad Pope from the Asheville Junction show in 2022, as well as his on-stage collaborations with the Lazybirds. A prior iteration the Scatterlings produced two albums, The Scatterlings in 2017 and Being Human in 2019.

“The concert at Bloom is mostly originals, with two covers and also a bit of old-time instrumental music for good measure,” Kornfeld said. “I came to playing music again through an old-time jam group and I love to always have some old-time in our shows because I feel that is the music that brought me here.”

The members share a fondness for songs about heartbreak, whiskey and killings, although they promise they are actually all very peaceful people. Many of their original songs offer masterful personal storytelling, while others are steeped deep in local history.

First-time Bloom concertgoers are asked to arrive no later than 5:45 p.m. to secure parking. Bug spray and weather-appropriate attire are also encouraged.

The next Bloom concert will feature Portland native and current Nashville resident Craig Carothers, scheduled at 6 p.m., Friday, July 21.

Bloom WNC Specialty Cut Flower Farm is located at 806 North Fork Road, and flowers will be available for purchase at intermission.
