A free Poetry Night at the Lowdown, inside Mellie Mac’s Garden Shack, from 6 - 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 19, will feature the work of local writers and raise money for the Friends of the Black Mountain Library.
The Dark City Poets Society event, which takes place on the third Tuesday of each month and welcomes poets of all levels of experience, will again benefit the nonprofit organization that supports the local library branch.
DCPS, founded by Clint Bowman and Melisa Pressley in 2020, is a poetry group that meets monthly at the Black Mountain Library. Participants are not required to register for DCPS events or its monthly critique meetings at the library.
The Lowdown will donate 10% of drink sales to the Friends of the Library, a nonprofit organization that has supported the Black Mountain library since 1963. In June, the event welcomed one of its largest crowds, with approximately 60 attendees and 16 poets.
A sign-up sheet for poets will be posted at 5:45 p.m., and will remain open throughout the event.
