Spring has sprung, and the telltale sights and smells are on full display at the Bloom WNC specialty cut flower farm. In celebration of the season, and to kick off the venue’s spring concert series, owner Abigail Moffitt has arranged an impressive lineup of concerts in the North Fork Valley.

The 2022 series opens at 6 p.m., Friday, April 22, with Gastonia native, singer and storyteller Jim Avett. Tickets for the show are only $15 and can be purchased at farmerfloristbloom.com

Avett, father of Seth and Scott of the Avett Brothers and Bonnie Avett Rini, released his album — “Trains Don’t Come Here Anymore” — in February of 2021. According to his website, he was young when he found the value in educational and entertainment storytelling.

“Surrounded and encouraged by parents, relatives, and neighbors who were supportive in all things musical… and keenly aware of some very enthusiastic liars and storytellers, it came naturally” for Avett to play musical instruments and write stories. He has been surrounded by music ever since.

At age 75, he performs and tours and can occasionally be seen on stage with his very popular offspring. His performance at Bloom promises to feature his signature combination of entertaining stories and songs.

Guests are encouraged to bring a chair, blanket, food and drinks, while pets and smoking are not allowed.

Frequent concertgoers can save by purchasing a Bloom WNC concert season pass for $100. This new option allows passholders to attend eight concerts of their choice. The next scheduled concert, set for Friday, May 6, will present a singer-songwriters-in-the-round, led by David Childers and featuring Zachary Warren and Helena Rose.
