The Swannanoa Valley roots of Foothills can be traced back nearly two decades to 2002, when it began as a 32-farmer cooperative selling locally sourced produce and ingredients to area restaurants. Eleven years later, the Foothills Meats Butcher Shop in Black Mountain marked the beginning of its expansion into retail.

In the fall of 2017, the business brought its services to the center of town with the launch of its dine-in and butcher shop location, which continues to focus on serving the community “honest meats.” On Saturday, Nov. 14, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Foothills Butcher Bar Black Mountain will celebrate its third anniversary with an outdoor event that will feature live music and local food and drinks.

The Foothills Anniversary Party will feature a performance from Cuberow, a soulful indie duo of Melissa Autumn Raines and Billy Presnell. The socially distanced event on Black Mountain Avenue includes $2 hot dogs for children, beer specials from Pisgah Brewing Co. and Hi Wire Brewing and a BBQ sampler from the Foothills smokehouse.

Customers can sign up for the Foothills Meat Share Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, which allows subscribers to receive regular orders of house meats.

Foothills, which also operates a butcher bar location in West Asheville and food truck at Hi Wire Brewing, is also unveiling a return to its farming roots with the launch of its Land Care Division, offering grading, excavation, road and driveway maintenance and repair and tractor services.

The new venture will allow the business to continue to diversify amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the restaurant to close to indoor diners in March.
