Andrew Wakefield brings 'Bluegrassish' sound to Bloom WNC

Outdoor concert series continues with Asheville singer-songwriter

The Bloom WNC specialty cut flower farm in Black Mountain will welcome singer-songwriter Andrew Wakefield, from 6 - 8 p.m., Friday, May 5, for an outdoor concert on the lawn.

The Asheville-based vocalist and guitarist is celebrating the release of his new solo album “Bluegrassish,” which features many musicians who have graced the Bloom stage. Joining Wakefield will be Nick Dauphinais who also produced the record.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased through the BloomWNC.com.

Wakefield has been playing the guitar since he was a child and began writing music in his teens. Now those years of experience have culminated in Wakefield’s reputation as  an exceptional musician who has an extensive and eclectic catalog of compositions ranging from guitar-driven bluegrass to folk, old-time, newgrass, rock, american, and more.

Bluegrassish” was released on the last day of April, and his concert will feature many songs from the album.

"I'm really proud of this record," Wakefield said. "There are a lot of local heavy hitters featured on it and I'm honored that they are working on a project with me."

Those artists include members of Songs From the Road Band, Larry Stephenson Band, The Well Drinkers, Supper Break, and Queen Bee and the Honeylovers.

The scenic Bloom Flower Farm is just starting to show its true seasonal colors. Just minutes from downtown Black Mountain, the outdoor venue asks guests to bring their own chairs and any other comfort items for this outdoor setting, including blankets, jackets, bug spray or hats. Concerts are limited to 125 people.

Ole’s Guacamole’s will be on the farm with a $15 cash only taco bar, featuring beef, chicken or vegetarian options. Food sales will be available from 5:15 - 7 p.m., though guests can bring their own refreshments as well.

The next concert at Bloom will be a Friday, May 19 benefit concert for Black Mountain Counseling Center.

Bloom WNC Specialty Cut Flower Farm is located at 806 North Fork Road. Flowers will be available for purchase at intermission.
